Requests

In this chapter, the findings of the present study in relation to pragmatic transfer in the production of the speech act of requests in emails are presented. As mentioned already, pragmatic transfer consists of pragmalinguistic transfer and sociopragmatic transfer. This chapter first presents the findings on pragmalinguistic transfer, followed by a description of sociopragmatic transfer. Finally the relationship between pragmatic transfer and language proficiency is discussed.
